Week 6 Update
Good morning parents,
I hope you enjoyed both the warmth and coolness of this weekend...my favourite time of the year. Warm days and cool nights are perfect for doing all the things!
We are about to begin exam week in our house for Ella...please keep her and us in your prayers!
Remembrance Day - Yesterday we celebrated Remembrance Day as a nation.
Our whole school gathered together on Wednesday in a service beautifully led by 5C remembering those that have served and died for us to live as we do.
We pause to remember on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.
The Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted the allied terms of unconditional surrender.
The conflict had mobilised over 70 million people, left between 9 and 13 million dead, and as many as one third of these with no grave.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. It became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.
Originally known as Armistice Day, it was renamed Remembrance Day after World War Two to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars.
Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
Our Character Strength of the Week...Bravery.
A perfect segue into this particular strength, so many of of our soldiers, past and present show bravery in many ways.
WHAT IS BRAVERY?
To be brave is to face your challenges, threats, or difficulties. It involves valuing a goal or conviction and acting upon it, whether popular or not.
A central element involves facing – rather than avoiding – fears.
This can be:
- Physical bravery - requiring us to do something physically challenging like running a race or getting a spider out of the bathroom.
- Psychological bravery - working on owning all the parts of ourselves and accepting them as a valuable part of who we are.
- Moral bravery - standing up for what is right, even if it isn't a popular opinion or others don't.
What's On This Week...
The short answer is...lots!
Technologies Monday - Please check in with your child to make sure they have gathered and packed their tower items ready for tomorrow afternoon's session.
The students will be given time to sort themselves ready to create their tower within the 15 minute time frame! They will need to bring in any kind of fixings, tape, glue etc. if you can please make sure they have communicated with their partner about what is required.
Vinnies Hamper Appeal - Each year at OLC we take time to be thankful for our blessings and to assist those local people in need by contributing to Christmas Hampers distributed by the St Vincent De Paul Society.
This year boxes will be in the shared work areas of the school and families are invited to contribute specified items.
Please look out for the labelled boxes in the following areas in the next few weeks and give generously to support others in what can be a difficult time of the year.
- K & PP: Christmas goodies, chocolates, bonbons, puddings, decorations, small children's gifts, and stocking stuffers etc. No lollies or candy canes please!
- Years 1, 2 & 3: Pasta sauces, meal kits, rice, biscuits, crackers, sauces, jams, condiments, (basically any non-perishable good food, which can be used beyond Christmas. No baked beans or tinned vegetables please 🙂).

Christmas Concert Preparations - As you would have read in the newsletter, preparations are well underway for our end of year concert which will be held on Wednesday 29th November beginning at 5.30pm.
Year 3 students are being asked to dress as traditional townspeople - Mrs King included some images in the newsletter for those needing some inspiration!
Early Arrivals - We understand that from time to time, it may be necessary to drop your child at school earlier than normal.
Can we please ask your support in reminding your child that if they arrive prior to 8.25am and are NOT participating in a school program, they are to hang their bag up outside their classroom and then make their way to the main courtyard area outside of the office.
There is no formal supervision before school and your cooperation is appreciated!
K-2 Dance Concert - A reminder that this super fun event is on this Friday, 17th November, our whole school turns out to support out younger students as they bust a move under Mrs Haines' excellent guidance.
All parents are warmly invited to attend, we will be handing out merit awards at the conclusion of the concert!
Wishing you all a great week!
Kind regards,
Mrs Delane
