Week 8 Update!
Good morning parents,
Apologies for the unusual timing of the weekly post...I am a little weary after a massive day down at Shark Park...what a day for our Club and community!
A successful day for the club with 3 out of 4 wins...the Women's team are devo they didn't get the points losing by just two points. SO much to work on but the club was a buzz of activity with loads of smiling faces which was so great to see!
The big man Mundy came...saw and conquered with a great sell of the candy to belt one through the big sticks...I think he would say, job done! He was such a lovely bloke to have around the club...patient with all the signing and photo requests. Hopefully he enjoyed it so much he might come back!
First Reconciliation & Family Mass - A massive thank you to all of the Year 3 families that came to Mass on Saturday night...it was a lovely time and a wonderful way to celebrate our First Reconciliation candidates and spend time together in prayer and companionship.
Our Character Strength of the Week...Perseverance:
What is Perseverance...Perseverance is sticking with things.
It means being hardworking and finishing what is started, despite challenges and obstacles that arise.
Sometimes we must dig deep and muster the will to overcome thoughts of giving up.
Some great questions to discuss around the dinner table include:
- When things get tough, do you keep on trying?
- Do you finish what you start?
Reminders for the Coming Week...
Stationery...it is that time of the term when many pencil cases are empty, glue sticks have long run out and there isn't a pencil to be found!
Can I please ask you to check in with your child and make sure they have glue, pencils and colours.
It causes a surprising amount of stress for your child when they don't have what they need and are unable to borrow from a classmate...they worry about not being ready to begin our lesson and are nervous to get in trouble.
I am very happy to lend items in the interim but I am unable to keep the entire class supplied with the necessities.
Additionally, other students feel stressed when they are constantly asked to lend their items...whilst sharing is an admirable quality, sometimes the students feel frustrated that it is a constant cycle.
In your initial book list order, I made sure that there was plenty of extras included in the list...can you please access these to make sure your child is well equipped to get through the day.
Wheels After Meals...is on for tomorrow at lunchtime under the supervision of our own Evil Knievel...Mr Lee! Please make sure that safety equipment is sent in and all wheels can be parked outside of Mr Lee's office ready to shred!
Uniform - there has been steady communication to students and parents about our uniform standards...the two ongoing culprits continue to be hair and appropriate shoes.
- Hair - for both boys and girls must be either above the collar or tied up and must remain clear of their face all day.
- I appreciate that some students are making an effort to keep their face clear but the style isn't secure enough to last the day...also, as mentioned on a number of occasions...hair fixings must be in black, white or teal colouring. Elaborate hair styles aren't practical to fit under hats and we have a no hat no play policy at recess and lunch.
- Black Joggers - these must be all black...sneakers with white sided soles are not acceptable.
Mr Torrese has spoken to students or made contact with parents...your support in this greatly appreciated.
Consistency and pride in our uniform is a great life skill!
HASS - A reminder that your child's THEN and NOW photos must be either brought in already printed or emailed to me directly by Wednesday morning...we have HASS in the afternoon and I will need time to get them printed for your child to complete their task.
Homework...A reminder that this is expected to be brought in every Friday. Looking through the list there are some students that are regularly missing this for a number of reasons.
Just to clarify...
- Mental Maths - completed for all days...this will be marked in class on Friday.
- Reading - the details of the book need to be written in the reading log and signed each night as well as a question answered for each evening.
Homework is set up on Friday ready to be sent home on Monday for the week...in an uneven week such as a public holiday or short week. Your child is welcome to to do all nights if they wish.
OLC Dance Extravaganza - We are so excited to have this great event on this coming Friday beginning at 11am...Mrs Haines and the students have been working super hard to put together a great show!
Your child is to come to school dressed in their costume on Friday...minus the face paint. We will then get them dressed ready for the concert to begin after recess.
Students will also need to bring their sports uniform to get changed back into AFTER the concert has finished.
3DEL are going to be CIRCUS ANIMALS!
Please make sure your child has elements of the following as their costume:
• Animal inspired clothing eg all black=chimpanzee or cat, black & white= zebra (doesn’t have to be your tradition circus animals either!)
• Any leopard print clothing they may have at home.
• Any fur coats or ‘furry/fluffy’ jumpers/jackets they may have at home.
• Any leather jackets you may have at home.
• Any animal ears, masks, head pieces, onesies etc they may have at home.
• Students will be in bare feet
The Year 6 students will be available to paint the Year 3’s faces (like animals) for the show day (NOT compulsory).
If your child has skin allergies, please advise them not to get their face painted. If you would like to paint/do animal style make-up at home for Friday Week 8, please feel free (again NOT compulsory, but we have over 100 students that need their face painted so any help is greatly appreciated!)
Looking forward to a great couple of weeks in 3DEL!
Enjoy the week,
Kind Regards,
Mrs Delane
