Welcome To Week 9...How?!
Good afternoon parents,
Welcome to another great week in 3DEL. I hope you are enjoying the day and the windups if you have had them have gone well?
I have been blown away by the amount of time that has suddenly opened up on the weekend now that SWFL is all done...whilst a real pleasure to be involved in, it is a a lot of work!
For those of you that have put your hand up to be involved in basketball and cricket this season...thank you and good luck!
A short one from me this week after the essay last week...
Character Strength of the Week...
Team Work - one that is crucial in all aspects of our lives...learning to work together to achieve common goals, success in its different forms and supporting each other to be at our best is a great thing to be a part of.
In 3DEL and in many other places we say 'Teamwork makes the dream work'. This goes for classrooms, friendships and relationships and actual teams as well.
A fantastic topic to bring up at the dinner table tonight to have your child reflect on where this strength sits for them.
What's On This Week...
I will be away on Monday and Tuesday of this week as we have been invited to attend the Sandover Medal in Perth on Monday night. Mark was nominated for and won an award for being the WA Football Commission's SW Volunteer of the Year...he is in contention for being the WAFC Volunteer of the Year!
A huge achievement for him recognising the hours of work he (and others) have put into making our Club, the largest regional club in WA and achieving great success across our SWFL senior teams...here's hoping he brings home the prize!
Miss Kyla Posthumous will be taking my class for the two days with Mrs Lamotte and Mrs Glaskin's support.
Open Classroom - Is on this Wednesday 13th September. All 3DEL grown ups are invited to come into class and check out what we have been working on...this is a great chance for your child to show you their work.
Our classroom will be open from 3.15 - 5pm...please enjoy this time with your child showing you around celebrating their progress and learning.
Sports Carnival - Is on this Friday 15th September beginning at 9.15am. Students are to wear their faction polo and make sure that they have their hat, water bottle and plenty of food for the day.
Mrs Sinclair will send further details of the day later this week once the program has been finalised.
All 3DEL grown ups are warmly invited to attend...there is a sausage sizzle available on the day - ordering through the canteen system please.
You are welcome to take your child home with you at the conclusion of the day, please make sure you see Mrs Lamotte to tick off your child's name...if your child will be going home with a friend or if you are taking additional children - please advise via email.
Something You Love Speech - As part of our writing this term, the students have been asked to plan, draft and then present a 1 minute speech about something they LOVE. They will use palm cards which we will create through this week.
If I can ask you to please send through a photo of your child with their object through the week.
All students are feeling super nervous about this task and I am hopeful you are hearing about it at home too.
As your child's teacher, I want this to be a positive experience where your child feels pride in their accomplishment...this being to present their speech in front of the class.
I know that for many...as in almost all the students, this is potentially a really difficult experience but one that I hope you and I can support them through.
I will send out a schedule later in the day letting your child know what day they will be presenting on.
You can help by:
- affirming their worry that this may be hard - but this is life.
- running through their speech with them.
- talking about the times when they have pushed through difficult feelings.
- offering strategies for what to do if something goes wrong - take a deep breath, start again, number your palm cards...just trying your best.
- sharing your own experiences of difficulties with public speaking if you have them.
- reassuring them that everyone is feeling the same.
- reminding them about what it means to be a good audience member - be a nodder and a smiler!
