Week 3 - What's Happening This Week?!

Good evening parents,

Welcome to an early post for this week...a big day tomorrow down at Shark Park this week so I want to make sure that I am super organised!

I hope all the games and activities went well this weekend and everyone stayed injury free!

Ella has managed a game of hockey on Friday, a full game in the ruck and forward and she's backing it up to bench for the women tomorrow.

Despite not training all week, the Pres has once again got the call up to play Ressies...him and Ella have a bet going on who is going to kick the most goals tomorrow! I put Toby on a plane this morning for a school trip to Canberra and the house is quiet and the kitchen is clean! Anyways, enough about what is happening here and back to the news of the week...

Character Strength of the Week...

WHAT IS JUDGMENT?

Judgment involves making rational and logical choices, and analytically evaluating ideas, opinions, and facts.

It is critical thinking, weighing the evidence fairly, thinking things through, and examining the evidence from all sides rather than jumping to conclusions.

Judgment also involves being open-minded and able to change one’s mind in the light of evidence, remaining open to other arguments and perspectives.

A great strength to talk about, particularly in relation to making choices on what we do.

What's On This Week...

BRLA - We will be having our actual BRL Assessment this Wednesday at 9.45am. The students did a great job on Wednesday and Friday with their practice tests.

The students have the option to have the question read to them in this assessment via their headphones.

Can you please check in with your child to make sure that they have a working set of headphones they can use for Wednesday.

Mission Markets - On Friday we will be having our Mission Markets, this is a day to show our appreciation and understanding Mary as our Patroness; to understand and celebration of the Feast of the Assumption; to raise awareness of those less fortunate in the world, and to “give” as an antidote to need.

Over the week we will be watching videos and completing activities relating to the above to help raise the awareness of the children that there are people that don't have it as good as we do.

On Friday, students need to bring a maximum of $20 in coins to spend at the various stalls - please make sure that they have either a wallet or purse with their name on it.

A ziploc bag clearly labelled is also a good option.

Operation Christmas Child - the Year 3 children are once again going to be involved in a “Shoe Box Gift” as a part of the Operation Christmas Child initiative.

These will be sent to underprivileged children throughout the world who wouldn’t normally receive a gift at Christmas time.

This initiative strongly supports the school’s value of Compassion and the Making Jesus Real program, from which the students learn the value of doing acts for others who are in need.

The children will be placed into in groups of five and between them they will fill a shoebox for a BOY or GIRL aged 5-9 years of age with a variety of items.

Each child in the group will be asked to cover the cost of sending the shoebox to its final destination. Each group member needs to bring in $2.50 each.

The children will be given time in the classroom to pack the shoebox and explore some of the places that their shoe boxes may be travelling to.

Please refer to the blog for some examples of what to bring in and what not to bring in.

If you have any queries or concerns, can you please contact us ASAP, as the children will need to have their items in by the end of Week 5 - Friday 18th August.

In their groups, students will allocate each group member an item under the following headings - please also see some suitable examples.

  • Something to love - small doll/doll accessories, stuffed animal, dress up items – crown, fairy wands etc., balls (tennis balls, bouncy balls, hackey sack, football, soccer ball, beach ball, etc.) with a pump if necessary, backpack/bag/tote-bag/purse.
  • Something to play with - playing cards, small musical instrument, skipping rope, marbles, ribbons wand or Lego.
  • Something to draw with and write on - lead or coloured pencils or textas, small, flexible notebooks.
  • Something of personal hygiene - toothbrush, washcloth, bar soap (must be packaged), comb or brush. Please no liquids or aerosols.
  • Something to wear -  dress/t-shirt/top/pants, hat/scarf/mittens, socks/shoes/flip flops, underwear, sunglasses, hair accessories (bows, ribbons, elastics etc.), friendship bracelets

We will work with students this week to get their groups set and ready and an item selected, if you are able to give multiple items any extras would be most appreciated and we thank you for any support you can give.

Thank you so much for a great start to the term, it has been a busy start to the term but I am consistently amazed at the awesomeness of the 3DEL legends...thank you for all that you do to help them and me. It is greatly appreciated!

Have a great week,

Mrs Delane
